Wyoming Downs opens 2026 live meet, $2.31M on-track handle
Wyoming Downs hosted its 2026 live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse meet in July, generating $2,314,781.40 in live on-track handle at its Evanston racetrack. The live meet followed 307 Horse Racing's June live event, which contributed $1.62M. Combined, June and July delivered $3.94M in live Wyoming racing handle, more than triple 2025's summer meet totals.

The live meet infrastructure at Wyoming Downs remains the state's only continuously operating live racing venue since 1947. On-track handle at these summer meets funds Wyoming's Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse breeding fund, which in turn subsidizes purses for future meets. HHR rebounds to $249M, up 8.6% month-over-month
Historic Horse Racing terminal handle bounced back to $249,356,716 in July after June's $229.7M dip. HHR still represents 98.7% of total Wyoming horse racing handle, dominant to the point where live and simulcast are rounding errors on the state's revenue mix.

Wyoming Horse Racing extended its lead as the largest HHR operator, gaining 3 points of share versus June (from 45.0% to 48.0%). Wyoming Downs slipped 1.7 points as its operational focus shifted partially to the live meet.
The state HHR takeout was $22,725,498, of which $623,392 flowed to the state general fund and an equivalent amount to the Live Sport Racing Account. County and city distributions totaled $2.49M.
ADW handle jumps 43%, Gameplay recaptures dominance
Advanced Deposit Wagering handle jumped from $314K in June to $449,900 in July, up 43.2% month-over-month. Almost all of the growth came from Gameplay, which rebounded from $155,987 in June to $303,685 in July, nearly doubling handle and reclaiming 67.5% share.

TwinSpires' share collapse from 10.1% to 2.1% is the biggest one-month move in Wyoming ADW history. Absent a public statement from the operator, the most plausible explanation is a Belmont Stakes-adjacent June promo cycle that did not extend into July's quieter Saratoga meet window. TwinSpires' Wyoming handle typically runs closer to $9-15K in a non-Triple-Crown month, so July's $9.5K is closer to baseline than a genuine decline.
DraftKings Horse Racing's second month in Wyoming saw handle climb from $21,683 to $28,857 (+33% MoM), holding share at 6.4%. This continues the trajectory of DraftKings' June ADW launch and suggests the crossover from DraftKings sportsbook customers is real, not a one-month promo effect.
Simulcast handle steady around $549K
Simulcast handle came in at $548,812, virtually unchanged from June's $551K. Simulcast wagering (betting on races broadcast from tracks outside Wyoming) has settled into a stable base of around $500 to $600K per month, split heavily toward Wyoming Horse Racing (57.4% share) and Wyoming Downs (25.1%), with 307 Horse Racing contributing the remainder.
What to watch in August
- Saratoga meet peaks. The Saratoga meet runs through Labor Day. August ADW handle typically follows the summer stakes calendar and could push $500K+.
- Wyoming Downs live meet continuation. Wyoming Downs' 2026 meet typically runs through mid-August. August's live handle should show whether attendance held up against the initial July burst.
- HHR seasonality. HHR handle historically peaks in Q1 and dips through summer travel months. Watch whether August's number tests the sub-$220M level or holds this July recovery.
- DraftKings ADW ramp. Two months in, DraftKings is holding a 6.4% ADW share on organic growth. August 3+ will show whether it settles here or continues taking share from Gameplay and TVG.
