The Wyoming Gaming Commission released its August 2026 Wagering Activity Report. The headline number, $15,709,165 in online sports betting handle, is down 7.3% month-over-month from July's $16.94M and is the lowest monthly handle of 2026 so far. On the revenue side the story is a normalization: statewide hold pulled back from July's elevated 14.34% to 11.45% in August, producing $1.80M in gross gaming revenue, down from July's $2.43M.

Hold normalized to 11.45% after July's spike

July's 14.34% hold sat well above Wyoming's typical 8 to 12% band. August reverted to 11.45%, back inside the normal range. On a lower handle base than July, August produced $1.80M in GGR versus July's $2.43M, roughly $630K less operator gross revenue on a handle that was itself $1.24M smaller.

Per-operator hold detail:

  • DraftKings 13.01%, down from 15.06% in July. Still the largest single revenue contributor at $1.02M in GGR.
  • FanDuel 12.00%, down from 13.17%. Held its price discipline while gaining volume.
  • BetMGM 9.92%, down sharply from July's 17.92% outlier as the parlay outcomes that drove that spike reverted toward the mean.
  • Fanatics 7.24%, down from 11.46%. Back below the industry norm on a small handle base.
  • Caesars 1.98%, down from 5.22% and again the softest hold in Wyoming.

For bettors: August was a friendlier month than July across the board. The average Wyoming customer gave back proportionally less than they did in July, when the statewide hold ran nearly three points higher.

FanDuel surges to 27.3% share as BetMGM gives ground

FanDuel was the clear share winner in August, climbing from 22.7% in July to 27.3%, well above its 22 to 25% range across the prior summer months. FanDuel handle rose to $4.29M from $3.85M in July, the only top-two operator to add volume in an otherwise softer month.

DraftKings ceded a little ground, slipping from 51.9% to 49.9%, but held its structural floor of roughly half the Wyoming market. Its handle eased to $7.85M from $8.80M in line with the overall market pullback.

BetMGM gave back the most, sliding from 14.5% to 11.4% as its handle fell to $1.80M from $2.46M. Fanatics ticked up to 6.0% from 5.8% and Caesars to 5.3% from 5.1%, both on lower absolute handle as the market contracted.

Non-cash payouts pull back

The August report shows $317,159 in non-cash payouts (bonus bets converting to withdrawable cash after wins), down from July's $437,805. July front-loaded bonus deployment ahead of football season, and August saw that pace ease before the regular-season promotional push.

Per-operator non-cash payouts in August:

  • DraftKings: $169,404 (still the biggest promo footprint)
  • FanDuel: $82,539
  • BetMGM: $37,002
  • Fanatics: $21,946
  • Caesars: $6,268 (smallest, consistent with their soft handle base)

Tax revenue eases with hold

Total state tax due for August was $136,726, down from July's $184,087, tracking the lower taxable revenue and normalized hold. August taxable gaming revenue was $1.37M, taxed at Wyoming's 10% rate.

Year-to-date 2026 state sports betting tax revenue is now approximately $1.19M across eight months.

What to watch for in September

  • Football season drives the rebound. August's $15.71M was the low point of 2026, landing during the late-summer lull before the NFL regular season opened in early September. Wyoming handle historically climbs once the NFL and college football calendars are in full swing, so expect September to recover off the August trough.
  • Cowboys season opener September 5 at Colorado State. UW football-specific handle will start showing up in the September report. See our Wyoming Cowboys 2026 preview for the FanDuel opening line (+152 ML) and full wins ladder.
  • Hold back in range. August's 11.45% hold is inside Wyoming's normal 8 to 12% band. Absent an outlier sports-results month, September hold should stay in that range as the promotional cycle refreshes into the season.
